Santa Monica College Campus Quad

Santa Monica College Campus Quad

Client Santa Monica College
Location Santa Monica

A bold, arcing pedestrian promenade lined by a double row of elegant date palms and a broad concrete site wall links the north and south ends of the campus core, bridging the gap between the recently completed Library and the existing Pico Boulevard entry to the campus, including the Student Services facility and transit plaza in a distinctive Southern California vernacular.

Meléndrez designed a landscape of water conserving plant materials and irrigation systems.  The great lawn includes a porous, below-grade storm water collection system to capture approximately 75% of the campus run off and acts as temporary retention, first flush filtration and storm water recharge.
