444 S. Flower Street Plaza

444 S. Flower Street Plaza

Client Hines
Location Los Angeles

This plaza space at the base of the Citibank Tower at 5th and Flower Streets has been reimagined to better accommodate the growing pedestrian resurgence in Downtown LA, to support the re-activation of the building's ground-level retail spaces, and to offer a gathering place for visitors and workers alike.

Project Architect AC Martin redesigned plaza walkways to follow natural desirelines, embracing the urban grid beyond the plaza. RELM's design for the plaza renovation addresses this reconfiguration through provision of Cor-ten steel planter boxes, flanked with integrated benches and seating, to further define edges and create a variety of spaces within the plaza. RELM worked closely with AC Martin to create an intricate network of human-scaled design elements to create nodes of activity while still offering moments for peaceful lingering in the midst of the bustle of the financial center of LA.
