MELÉNDREZ SITE WALK AT BLOSSOM PLAZA

January 29, 2016

The Meléndrez studio walked the nearly completed Blossom Plaza in Chinatown. Project Manager Marc Delouvrier, Lead Designer Tony Lopez, and Principal Scott Baker, led the office through the site to explain design concepts, discuss constructability issues, and review lessons learned. Built entirely on a podium over subterranean parking, the project is comprised of three distinct spaces: the retail walk, the Fountain Square, and the residential courtyard. The retail walk and the residential courtyard both drew influence from traditional Shanghai residential alleys or Longtangs. The retail walk and Fountain Square create a clear link from North Broadway through the project to the Metro Gold Line Chinatown station platform. The Fountain Square is an important public space, comprised of two grids of canopy trees encircling a misting stone fountain, lending itself to both intimate and celebratory events in the community.

The project is set to open this Spring.
